The artist was born in 1959 in Istanbul. After he completed economy education, he made researches on art and philosophy at different universities in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Beginning from his mature ages, he has been interested in history of art, philosophy, and social sciences and he published articles about art and aesthetics.
The artist established and directed an art gallery in 1993. In addition to painting, he is closely interested in different branches of traditional arts. In the years between 1996-1997, he prepared and presented a TV program which was a live broadcast weekly program in order to please traditional arts to society. He is the owner of a special multimedia and graphic design company. His unique works of art are now existing in Turkey and some other countries’ special collections. The artist have worked as an art director in many public and private companies and he still works as an art advisor in a private company.
Peyami Gurel is an artist who made technical researches in traditional arts and added new expansions on them; (marbling, calligraphy, miniature, and traditional decorative art (tazheep) He continues to paint in his workshop in Istanbul Maltepe and educate his students by giving a special importance in the field of traditional arts and design. Throughout his career, making rare personal exhibitions is a principle he kept, likely he attended few mixed exhibitions. His art expression is related to ontological and existentialist dimensions. The artist is affected by hermetic teaching and he continues to paint with a modern attitude.
